UNDER THE SURFACE

Our Difference Is What
You Can't See

We don't compete on cheap prices — we compete on doing it right. The reason our work lasts while others fail is almost entirely below the surface, in steps most contractors skip.

▼ Excavation Depth

Proper Excavation Depth

We dig 6–8 inches for paver bases — not the 2 inches a rushed crew uses. What’s underneath is what lasts through Ohio winters.

◆ Base Rock

High-Quality Base Rock

Compacted #57 stone and crusher run gravel, not cheap fill dirt. The base is what keeps pavers level and retaining walls upright for decades.

≈ Wall Drainage

Engineered Wall Drainage

Every retaining wall gets a gravel backfill pocket and drainage outlets. Without it, freeze-thaw pressure will topple even a well-built wall in a few years.

⊿ Grading

Precision Grading

Every project is sloped to move water away from your foundation, driveway, and structures — not just toward the nearest low spot.

HOW IT WORKS TOGETHER

One Contractor.
The Whole System.

A beautiful paver patio requires expert excavation. A lasting retaining wall requires perfect yard grading and drainage behind it. These aren’t separate jobs — they’re one system.

When you hire multiple contractors, each one solves their piece and leaves. We design and install the whole picture, so nothing gets missed between trades.

EXCAVATION → PAVERS

Right depth, right base, right result. A patio is only as good as what’s dug beneath it.

GRADING → DRAINAGE

Water directed away before it becomes a problem. Proper slope is the first line of defense.

DRAINAGE → WALLS

Proper backfill and drainage outlets mean your retaining wall stands for decades, not a few winters.

COMMON MYTHS

Landscaping Myths
We Hear Every Week

These misconceptions lead homeowners to delay fixes, hire the wrong people, or be surprised when cheap work fails. Let’s clear them up.

FACT: Pavers only sink when installed over an inadequate base. Our compacted gravel and #57 stone base prevents shifting through Ohio’s freeze-thaw cycles. When the base is installed correctly — the right depth, the right material, properly compacted — the pavers above it stay level for decades. Sinking is a symptom of a bad installation, not an inevitability.

FACT: Topsoil settles and compresses — it never fixes the drainage problem underneath. A soggy yard has nowhere for water to go. The real fix is proper grading to establish slope away from structures, combined with French drains or catch basins that route water completely off your property. Filling in a low spot without addressing drainage just moves the problem.

FACT: A wall without engineered drainage behind it is on a clock. Ohio’s freeze-thaw cycles build enormous hydrostatic pressure in soil — and that pressure goes straight into the wall. We install gravel backfill, drainage fabric, and weep outlets behind every wall so water has somewhere to escape instead of pushing the wall out from behind. We’re also certified Allan Block and Reading Rock contractors, trained specifically in wall construction that survives our climate.
